I bought the Double Ended Pencil Duo from Ulta, but here is the Urban Decay product page for reference. The double-ended pencils are Corrupt/Zero and Uzi/Empire.
Corrupt: metallic chocolate
Empire: “deep matte eggplant”
Uzi: metallic grey
Zero: matte black

As you can see, they all fade down to..black, more or less. And that black is a little difficult to remove. I was wearing a sweater today. I haven’t worn the eyeliner on my eyes for 12 hours, so I don’t know if they’d actually look like that, but after about 9 hours, the lines are still pigmented, but faded of course.
[Aside: Please excuse the redness in the second picture. The eyeliner didn’t irritate me or anything. I had just been playing with Dog, and I am slightly allergic to dogs.]
Back story:
As I mentioned in a previous post, I was in the market for eyeliners, and my criteria were:
- Waterproof (or at least smudge-proof) – because I wear contacts, and sometimes my eyes get irritated and tear up
- Pencil – I don’t have the steady hand for liquid
- Skinny – I just want to add a little color; I don’t need anything dramatic (fat eyeliners)
- Inexpensive or a set – I don’t use a ton of eyeliner, so they last me a long time. I want a few colors (at least 2), but don’t want to pay a ton!
I bought this set because:
Urban Decay’s eye pencils were my second choice. They are relatively water/smudge-proof, and I got 4 half-pencils for $28, which is nice since each full-sized pencil costs $19. Also, it came with a sharpener ($10 value), which I don’t already have. Overall good deal for me :)
Review:
I’m not sure where to start. I like the pencils overall, but they didn’t completely win me over; the next time I see a MUFE set, I will definitely snag one.
The texture is really nice and creamy, so the pencils glide on so easily. This makes it easily smudgeable. I’d have to say that the color does fade over the course of a workday, but my eyes are still mostly lined by the end of the day, and I don’t have raccoon eyes (yay!). Some color or glitter might fall to your undereye area, but it isn’t a huge deal.

The good |
The bad |
Other notes |
Waterproof |
Stays on all (work) day |
Difficult to remove, even with my makeup remover |
I normally use a face wash, which has always done a good job removing makeup. For this, I use a different trick. |
Smudgeable |
Good if you want to smudge the lines. |
Continues to be smudgeable throughout the day, so don’t rub your eyes. |
BUT it doesn’t come off by itself. |
Glitter |
I love a little shimmer in my eyeliners! Since the pencil is so creamy, I end up with glitter on my eyelashes too. |
The glitter pieces must be bigger or something, because sometimes I can feel them on my eyelashes/fall into my eye. |
Glitter pieces “bigger” relative to my previous eyeliners (a limited bareMinerals trio eyeliner set which were all shimmery) |
[Note: You can just use a natural oil to remove eye makeup! I stumbled across the tip from Fig+Sage. I haven’t needed a “heavy duty” eye makeup remover in a while, but with this new pencils, my usual face wash wasn’t enough (I’d have to wash my eye area twice.) I used the extra virgin olive oil I have in my kitchen, and it worked like a charm! I kind of got some oil in my eye, which felt a little funny, but it didn’t irritate my eyes! Awesome :) ]
In conclusion, UD’s do a good job and were a nice deal for me. But I still really want a MUFE Aqua Eyes set!!! >:(
